Pipe counterboring consists of lightly machining the inside of a pipe for ensuring that the land is the same width over the whole circumference of the pipe end. As is also the case for the gap between two pipes, constant land width makes it easier to weld tubes or pipes together. This can be explained by pipe manufacturing tolerances that may give rise to varying land widths over the pipe’s circumference.
